Honeymoon Preparation

Your honeymoon should be one of the most enjoyable holidays you will have.
It should be a memorable time and a special getaway for you and your new
husband/wife. Preparations for the wedding day can sometimes push preparation for your honeymoon aside but it is important to plan for your honeymoon early. Booking the honeymoon with a travel consultant is the last part of the preparation for the honeymoon but there are other items to consider.

I. Are Your Passports Up-To-Date?

If not, you will need to get them updated. This can take as little as a week to upwards of three to four months! If you are a Canadian citizen the process is easier than if you are a landed immigrant. Getting a passport from the embassy of your birth country can take quite a while so make sure that you start getting the information together as early as possible. If you wait until the last minute you may have to put off your honeymoon and that would be a great disappointment.

II. When Searching For A Honeymoon Destination Talk to different tourist agents and obtain booklets when ever possible.

Ask about specials and deals that are current. Sometimes honeymoon packages such as "meal deal", or "free breakfasts", can save you quite a bit of money. All inclusive packages can be an easy alternative but are also higher in price. Talk to reputable tourist agents that can give you good advice about the pros and cons of each. Make sure that the travel company you choose will have a "company tour guide" available when you reach your destination. This way you will be warned about things that you may not have considered about the area of your honeymoon and can get advance notice of the "best" places to visit at your destination. They also provide you with easy booking of the sites that you want to see.

III. Safety First !

Make sure that the package includes medical insurance. If not, make sure that you purchase some from your insurance agent. Most destination hotels have "Safety Deposit Boxes" . Make sure that you keep all your valuables and extra travellers cheques in the safety deposit boxes as hotels are not liable for theft of your goods in many areas. Do not walk around alone in an area you are unsure of. Some destination areas have better security than others but you must always be on the look out since you will probably stand out as a tourist.

IV. Arrive At The Airport EARLY !!!

Keep in mind that having a flight booked does NOT reserve seating for you and your mate. If you arrive too late you may find that you may not be able to sit with your new wife/husband. I am talking from experience as this happened to us. Go to the airport early and reserve your seating on that day. Even 4 hours early. Talk to your tourist agent about this to ensure you do not have this problem. We hope that this helps you begin your search for the perfect wedding day and wish you all the best in your forth coming marriage!
